Melbourne Housekeepers

About us

A different kind of cleaning service.

We're not a marketplace. We don't publish profiles for you to browse, and we don't let an algorithm decide who enters your home. Melbourne Housekeepers is a managed matching service — we do the work upfront, and we only introduce you to someone we'd trust in our own home.

Every housekeeper in our network has passed a VIC Police Check, holds $20M public liability insurance, has had three professional references personally contacted, and complies with Victoria's Labour Hire Licensing Act 2018. That's the floor — not the ceiling.

Our story

Why we built Melbourne Housekeepers

The cleaning industry in Melbourne has a trust problem. Online platforms list hundreds of profiles and make money whether a job goes well or not. You're expected to read reviews, check insurance certificates, call references, and ultimately make a judgement call about a stranger entering your home — without any real support.

We built Melbourne Housekeepers to fix that. The model is simple: you tell us your suburb, home size, and what you need. A real person on our team reviews your request and selects one housekeeper from our verified network — someone matched to your location, your property type, and your preferences. We make the introduction. You decide if you want to proceed. No obligation.

We're not trying to be the biggest platform in Australia. We're trying to be the most trusted matching service in Melbourne. Those are different goals, and they require different decisions — about who we work with, how we screen them, and how we handle it when something goes wrong.

We work exclusively with contractors who comply with Victoria's Labour Hire Licensing Act 2018 — a legal standard designed to protect workers and clients alike. Many cleaning services operating in Melbourne don't meet this standard. We don't partner with them.

The problem we solve

What's wrong with the current options

Marketplace platforms leave screening to you

Airtasker, Gumtree, and similar platforms provide a list of profiles. The responsibility for checking insurance, calling references, and assessing suitability sits entirely with the client. Most people don't have the time — or the expertise — to do this properly.

Reviews aren't a substitute for real checks

A four-star average tells you nothing about whether someone's insurance is current, whether their police check has lapsed, or whether their three glowing reviews came from family members. We do the actual verification work.

Cash-in-hand operators create legal exposure

Hiring an unregistered contractor who doesn't hold a Labour Hire Licence can expose homeowners to unexpected liability. LHA compliance isn't a nice-to-have — in Victoria, it's the legal framework that governs how labour hire arrangements must operate.

Our screening standard

What every housekeeper must pass before placement

Every item below is verified by our team directly — not self-reported by the contractor. If a requirement lapses, placements are paused until it's reinstated.

VIC Police Check

Every housekeeper holds a current VIC Police Check, renewed annually. We verify the certificate directly — we don't accept self-reported claims.

$20M public liability insurance

Full coverage on every job. We request a current certificate of currency from every contractor before their first placement and at each annual renewal.

Three professional references

We personally contact a minimum of three previous employers or clients. We ask specific questions about reliability, quality, and conduct — not just 'was this person good?'

Labour Hire Authority compliance

Every contractor complies with Victoria's Labour Hire Licensing Act 2018 (Vic). This separates legitimate operators from unregistered, cash-in-hand services that offer no protection to clients or workers.

On-site skills assessment

New placements include a supervised or observed clean before a client relationship is established. We assess technique, product knowledge, and attention to detail — not just availability.

Ongoing client feedback review

After every clean, clients can submit a digital completion review. We monitor feedback continuously. Standards don't slip over time because we're watching.

Annual insurance renewal confirmation

Insurance lapses are a common issue in the cleaning industry. We chase every contractor for renewed certificates each year. If cover lapses, placements are paused until it's reinstated.

What we stand for

Our values aren't on a poster. They're in the process.

Trust over convenience

We prioritise getting the match right over getting it fast. Our matching process takes 24–48 hours — not 24 seconds — because a real person reviews every request. That's not a bug. It's the product.

Transparency as standard

GPS check-ins, before-and-after photo logs, and digital completion reports mean you always know exactly what was done, when, and by whom. No guesswork, no vague invoices.

Fair work, fair pay

We only work with LHA-compliant contractors. We don't partner with operators who undercut legitimate businesses by avoiding licensing obligations, underpaying workers, or operating without insurance. The short-term savings aren't worth the risk — to you, or to the people doing the work.

Long-term relationships

A housekeeper who has cleaned your home six times knows where things go, how you like your kitchen, and which products to avoid. We're not optimising for one-off bookings — we're building consistent, long-term relationships between Melbourne households and trusted professionals.

Why Melbourne-only

We only operate where we can do this properly.

Melbourne Housekeepers operates exclusively in the Melbourne metropolitan area. That's not a limitation — it's a deliberate choice. Doing this job well requires local knowledge: understanding which suburbs have apartment complexes with strict access requirements, which areas have a higher density of short-stay rentals, and which postcodes have the strongest pool of experienced housekeepers.

Scaling nationally would mean compromising on the screening and matching quality that defines our service. We'd rather be genuinely excellent in one city than mediocre across five.
